Observe and Monitor your athletes
Before beginning the athletic program participants should release medical and physical history
• All athletes undergo a physical exam
• Take body weight before/after exercise (determines loss of fluids)
• Ensure athletes are drinking water/keeping hydrated
• Inform athletes of risk factors
• Substitute athletes regularly during hot/humid days
• Know what to do if an emergency arises
What to do during an emergency
• Move athlete to a cool shaded area
• Loosen/Remove heavy clothing
• Have athlete drink cool water
• Cool athletes body by fanning or spraying with cool mist
• Place ice packs under the arms/groin
• If serious enough call 911
