The Access to Medical and Exposure Records Poster informs employees of their rights regarding medical and exposure records under federal OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1020.
The poster states that employees have the right to see and copy:
- Their own medical records and records of exposure to toxic substances or harmful physical agents;
- Records of exposure to toxic substances or harmful physical agents of other employees with similar work conditions; and
- Safety Data Sheets or other information that exists for chemicals or substances to which employees may be exposed.
The Access to Medical and Exposure Records Poster contains blank lines for the employer to fill in company-specific information:
- The location of medical and exposure records
- The name or title of the person responsible for providing the records
- The place where an employee may obtain a copy of OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1020

Posting Requirement
The Access to Medical and Exposure Records posting is a CPC-designed notice which fulfills the mandatory-to-communicate requirements of federal OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1020(g).
Covered employers must inform current employees (at time of hire, and at least once annually) of the existence, location, and availability of employee medical and exposure records; the person responsible for maintaining and providing access to the records; and each employee’s right of access to these records. Employers are also required to maintain a copy of OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1020 and make copies readily available to employees upon a request.
Posting is not required, but may be a convenient way for some employers to fulfill this requirement.
