The California Code of Regulations (CCR) Article 9 establishes requirements for controlling occupational exposure to noise. The CCR requires employers to:
- Provide protection against noise when sound levels exceed 85 decibels over an 8-hour period.
- Establish a hearing conservation program, test employees’ exposure, and provide employees with hearing protectors when sound exceeds the specified limit.
- Provide exposed employees with annual training in occupational noise exposure and the use of hearing protectors.
- Provide employees with testing results upon request.
- Retain records of exposure measurements for 2 years.
- Post a copy of CCR Article 9 in the workplace.
