The Danger Electrical Panel Area Sign displays the text DANGER in large white text over a red background. This sign warns employees and the public that this is an Electrical Panel Area and that they must keep clear of the posted area.
Employers are required to provide a safe and healthful workplace for their workers. Workers must be alerted to potential hazards in the work environment and informed on how to protect themselves. Electrical panels are a potential risk for fire or electric shock.
OSHA also requires employers to maintain accessibility to the front of electrical panels so that there is a clear working space and access to circuit breakers in case of emergency. For equipment serving between 120 volts and 250 volts, the access area must consist of a minimum of three feet of clearance in front of the electrical panel and a minimum width equal to the width of the equipment or 2.5 feet, whichever is greater. Make sure your employees know not to obstruct the area surrounding the electrical panel.
The Danger Electrical Panel Area Sign must be posted where necessary to warn employees about electrical hazards which may endanger them (OSHA 1910.335(b)(1)).
