Starting November 1, 2017, the legal age for purchasing tobacco products and electronic smoking devices in the state of New Jersey is 21. A person who violates the law shall be liable to a civil penalty of not less than $250 for the first violation, not less than $500 for the second violation, and $1,000 for the third and each subsequent violation.
Posting Requirements
Businesses that sell tobacco products are required to post the New Jersey Tobacco Age of Sale poster (New Jersey Stat. 54:40A-4.1). The poster will help inform people about the law.
