City of Portland, Maine Minimum Wage Poster
The Portland, ME Minimum Wage Poster announces the current minimum wage rate.
- Beginning in 2018, and each year thereafter, the minimum wage rate in the City of Portland will increase based on increases in the cost of living.
- The minimum wage rate applies to all employers that pay all employees no less than the minimum wage established by the Portland Minimum Wage Ordinance for each hour worked within the City Limits.

Covered Employer and Employee Definitions
“Employer” means any individual, group of individuals, partnership, association, corporation, business trust, or any other entity or group of persons or entities who employs or exercises control over the wages, hours, or working conditions of any Employee and who has a place of business within the City limits. “Employer” shall include but not be limited to the City of Portland.
“Employee” means any person who performs work for an Employer for monetary compensation within the municipal limits of the City. Employee shall include persons who perform work for an employer on a full-time, part-time, seasonal or temporary basis.
“Service Employee” means any Employee engaged in an occupation in which he or she customarily and regularly receives more than $100.00 a month or more in tips.
Posting Requirements
Covered employers are required to post the official Portland Minimum Wage Poster and copy of the Ordinance in a place which is prominent and easily accessible to employees. (City of Portland Code of Ordinances, Sec. 33.8(a))
