Who must post the Colorado 2024 Employment Discrimination Peel ‘N Post?
- Every employer, employment agency, labor organization, and place of public accommodation must post and maintain at its establishment the Colorado Civil Rights Division Anti-Discrimination postings summarizing the discriminatory or unfair practices that are prohibited by law in employment, places of public accommodation, and housing. (3 CCR § 708-1)
- With respect to employers and employment agencies, such notices must be posted conspicuously in easily accessible and well-lit places customarily frequented by employees and applicants for employment, and at or near each location where services of employees are performed.
What’s new?
- The Colorado Anti-Discrimination Law (CRS §24-34-301, et. seq.) prohibits discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing on the basis of any protected category listed in the law, including discrimination based on race. The law (a.k.a. the Crown Act) further defines “race” to include certain hair characteristics that are commonly or historically associated with one’s race including hair texture, hair type, or a protective hairstyle, such as braids, locs, twists, tight coils or curls, cornrows, Bantu knots, Afros, and headwraps.
- Effective June 3, 2024, House Bill 1451 expands protected hair characteristics to include hair length that is associated with one’s race.
