The Georgia Human Trafficking Poster informs victims of slavery and human trafficking that they are protected under international, federal, and state law. The poster also provides information on how to contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center via the anonymous and confidential 24-hour hotline, and the Statewide Georgia Hotline for Human Trafficking.
Victims of slavery and human trafficking may be sold for sex or made/forced to work for little or no pay, and unable to leave. The non-profit, non-governmental National Human Trafficking Resource Center provides help and referral to services for victims and survivors of human trafficking, as well as training and general information for those who wish to provide assistance to victims.
Posting Requirement
The following businesses are required to post the Georgia Human Trafficking Poster or a substantially similar notice, in English and Spanish, in each public restroom for the business or establishment and either in a conspicuous place near the public entrance of the business or establishment, or in another conspicuous location in clear view of the public and employees where similar notices are customarily posted (OCGA, § 16-5-47) :
- Adult entertainment establishments;
- Bars;
- Primary airports;
- Passenger rail or light rail stations;
- Bus stations;
- Truck stops;
- Emergency rooms within general acute care hospitals;
- Urgent care centers;
- Farm labor contractors and day haulers;
- Privately operated job recruitment centers;
- Safety rest areas located along interstate highways in this state;
- Hotels;
- Businesses and establishments that offer massage or bodywork services by a person who is not a massage therapist; and
- Government buildings; provided however that in the case of leased property, this paragraph shall only apply to public restrooms that are a part of the lease for exclusive use by the government entity.
Failure to comply after notice may result in a fine of up to $500 for a first violation and up to $5,000 for a second or subsequent violation. A second violation will be considered a high and aggravated misdemeanor.
