Under the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, federal workplaces and non-federal workplaces with a federal contract of $100,000 or more or a federal grant in any amount must implement a a drug-free awareness program. The program must inform employees about:
- the dangers of drug abuse in the workplace;
- the person’s policy of maintaining a drug-free workplace;
- any available drug counseling, rehabilitation, and employee assistance programs; and
- the penalties hat may be imposed upon employees for drug abuse violations.
