Victims of human trafficking may be forced or coerced into engaging in prostitution, housework, farm work, factory work, retail work, restaurant work, or any other activity. Since 2007, the non-profit, non-governmental National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline has received 246,267 reports on potential victims of sex or labor trafficking. The Resource Center provides help and referral to services for victims and survivors of human trafficking, as well as training and general information for those who wish to provide assistance to victims.

The Florida Public Lodging Human Trafficking Poster informs victims of human trafficking that they are protected under United States and Florida law. The poster also provides the Florida Human Trafficking Hotline (1-855-FLA-SAFE).

Posting Requirement

Florida Statutes, Section 509.096 requires all lodging establishments to:

  • Implement a procedure for the reporting of suspected human trafficking to the National Human Trafficking Hotline or to a local law enforcement agency.
  • Post in a conspicuous location in the establishment that is accessible to employees a human trafficking public awareness sign at least 11″ x 15″ in size, printed in an easily eligible font and in at least 32-point type, which states in English and Spanish and any other language predominantly spoken in that area which the department deems appropriate substantially the following:
    • “If you or someone you know is being forced to engage in an activity and cannot leave, whether it is prostitution, housework, farm work, factory work, retail work, restaurant work, or any other activity, call the Florida Human Trafficking Hotline, 1-855-FLA-SAFE, to access help and services. Victims of slavery and human trafficking are protected under United States and Florida law.”

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Division of Hotels and Restaurants has created this human trafficking awareness poster as a convenience for public lodging establishments. The Florida Department of Health has also created their own version of the Human Trafficking Poster.
