What changed?

The 2025 Unemployment Insurance posting reflects changes made by House Bill 247 (2024) concerning unemployment insurance fraud disqualification and penalties. The posting explains that a claimant who knowingly makes a false statement or who intentionally fails to disclose an important fact to receive or increase a benefit amount:

  • Will be disqualified for the remainder of the benefit year after the fraudulent act and continuing until:
    • The fraud benefits and penalties are repaid, or
    • Ten years have elapsed from the date of disqualification.
  • All fraud overpayments over $1,000:
    • Will be referred to the office of the district attorney where the claimant resides, and
    • Are considered a crime of theft under R.S. 14:67 if proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
  • Posting revision date: March 2025.
