Product Description

The City of Minneapolis Employment Rights Poster provides information on the city’s Minimum Wage and Sick and Safe Time Ordinances, Wage Theft Prevention Ordinance, and lets employees know who to contact to report a suspected violation of the ordinances.

The municipal minimum wage went into effect for large businesses (20+ employees) on January 1, 2018 and for small businesses (1-19 employees) on July 1, 2018. Employers must pay employees the municipal minimum wage for every hour worked within the geographical limits of the city. The Minneapolis Employment Rights Poster displays a table with the minimum wage rates for large and small businesses through 2024.

The poster also provides information on the Sick and Safe Time Ordinance, which requires that employees who work for an employer in the geographic area of Minneapolis accrue paid or unpaid leave to use for the health and safety of the employee or the employee’s family member. This applies to full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers, as well as paid interns and temporary staff.

Employees may use their sick and safe time off for the following reasons:

  • To pursue treatment or preventative care for a medical or mental health condition, for the employee or the employee’s family member.
  • To seek law enforcement, counseling, or other services related to domestic abuse, sexual assault, or stalking, for the employee or the employee’s family member.
  • Closure of the employee’s place of business for public health reasons.
  • Unexpected closure of a family member’s school or place of care, including inclement weather.

The Sick and Safe Time Ordinance went into effect on July 1, 2017.
