The Missouri Human Rights Act makes it illegal to discriminate in any aspect of housing because of an individual’s race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, familial status, or disability. For example, it is illegal to:
- refuse to rent or sell housing
- refuse to negotiate for the sale or rental of housing
- set different terms, conditions, or privileges for sale or rental of a dwelling
- make housing unavailable to certain individuals
- falsely deny that housing is available for inspection, sale, or rental
- provide different housing services or facilities to certain individuals
- for profit, persuade owners to sell or rent
- deny certain individuals access to or membership in a facility or service related to the sale or rental of housing
The Missouri Human Rights Act applies to landlords, rental managers, property owners, real estate agents, bankers, developers, builders, and individual homeowners who are selling or renting property.
