The Missouri Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination in places of public accommodations based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, and disability. For example, it is illegal to:
- refuse to provide service
- set different terms or conditions for services or facilities
- fail to reasonably accommodate an individual’s disability to allow him/her to use and enjoy the place of accommodation
- fail to provide, or providing inadequate, disabled parking spaces
- fail to provide an accessible public restroom
- fail to provide an accessible entrance
Places of public accommodation include places or businesses offering or holding out to the general public goods, services, privileges, facilities, advantages, or accommodations, for the peace, comfort, health, welfare, and safety of the general public or such public places providing food, shelter, recreation, and amusement.
Posting Requirements
Employers doing business in places open to the public are required to post the Missouri Public Accommodation Poster (8 CSR 60-3.010).
