Sergio Lopez Food Allergen Awareness Act
Effective September 1, 2023, all food service establishments in Texas must display a poster that includes the following information:
- Risks of an allergic reaction to a food allergen;
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction;
- A list of major food allergens, as determined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration; and
- Appropriate responses for assisting an individual who is having an allergic reaction.
The poster was designed for food service employees and managers to be more aware of food allergies and to know how to mitigate and respond to potential allergic reactions.
Posting Requirement
All Texas food establishments must display this poster in “an area of the establishment regularly accessible to the establishment’s food service employees.” (Texas Health and Safety Code, Sec. 437.027) Food establishments have until September 1, 2024 to display this poster.
