Bullying is the kind of treatment you’d expect to encounter in Jr. High or High School, not in the workplace. After all, we’re all adults and we’ve learned to some extent, that there are repercussions for the actions we take against others. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
Workplace bullying is the constant, health-harming mistreatment of a person(s) by another person(s) that resembles: verbal abuse; offensive conduct or behavior – nonverbal or otherwise, including humiliation, threatening or intimidating workplace exchanges; sabotage or anything else that prevents work from getting done. Today, 37% of Americans are affected by it and in its most extreme forms, bullying can lead to health-related conditions such as hypertension, auto-immune disorders, depression, anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder.
Bullying is an issue for employers as well because it robs a person of their livelihood, economic or health security a job defines. As a result some companies have created policies and developed labor law postings and procedures to eradicate the behavior along with the individual. Laws have also been passed like the WBI Healthy Workplace Bill, which calls on employers to take action in the workplace.
Compliance Poster was established in 1989 to communicate compliance laws and requirements through federal labor law posters and workplace posters.
