Montana’s Minimum Wage Increases January 1, 2014

The Montana Department of Labor and Industry recently announced Montana’s minimum wage rate for 2014. As you may know, Montana law requires a minimum wage adjustment annually based on changes in inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Typically each year an announcement on the CPI results and minimum wage change are released the first week of October.

For 2014 the minimum wage will increase by 10 cents. Effective January 1, 2014 Montana’s minimum wage will increase from $7.80 per hour to $7.90 per hour. This represents a CPI increase from August 2012 to August 2013. The actual calculation is as follows:

$7.80 x .015% = $.12, rounded to $0.10
