The state of Wisconsin has joined forces with the U.S. Department of Labor to reduce misclassification of employees. The goal is to prevent and reduce the misclassification of independent contractors or other nonemployee statuses by having agencies work together. Under the agreement, state and federal agencies can share resources and information, as well as conduct joint investigations. This will help improve compliance with labor laws to protect employees.
Just in the last three months, the states of Florida, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire have also signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. Department of Labor. More information on Wisconsin or other states that have signed the agreement can be found on the U.S. Department of Labor’s website http://www.dol.gov/whd/workers/misclassification/.
