West Virginia Workers are Now Eligible for Unemployment Compensation using Alternative Base Period Wages
West Virginia’s Unemployment Benefits poster has been updated as a result of legislation passed in May, 2009 (WV SB 246) which amended West Virginia’s Unemployment Compensation Law. The terms “alternative base period” and “alternative base period wages'” were added to the definition and eligibility provisions under the state code.
On the Unemployment Benefits posting, the “Eligibility” section has been conformed to correspond with the new definition and eligibility provisions. The text now provides that to be monetarily eligible for unemployment compensation benefits, an employee must have earned the threshold gross wages during two or more quarters of either the “regular” base period (first four of the last five completed calendar quarters) or the “alternative base period” (the last four quarters immediately preceding the first day of the individual’s benefit year).
CPC’s 2011 West Virginia All-On-One posters feature the updated Unemployment Benefits posting.
