Massachusetts Minimum Wage Took Effect January 1

For the first time in seven years, the minimum wage rate in the state of Massachusetts increased from $8.00 per hour to $9.00 per hour on January 1, 2015. The minimum wage rate increase is the first in a series of three annual increases required by a bill signed in 2014 by Governor Deval Patrick:

  • Effective January 1, 2015 the minimum wage increases from $8.00 per hour to $9.00 per hour. Service rate increases to $3.00 per hour.
  • Effective January 1, 2016 the minimum wage increases to $10.00 per hour. Service rate will increase to $3.35 per hour.
  • Effective January 1, 2017 the minimum wage increases to $11.00 per hour. Service rate will increase to $3.75 per hour.

In accordance with the provisions of Massachusetts General Laws M.G.L.c. 151, s. 16 and the Code of Massachusetts Regulations 455 CMR 2.06(1), employers are required to post the Wage and Hour Laws posting in the workplace.

To comply with the posting requirement, Massachusetts employers can purchase the updated Massachusetts All-On-One Labor LawTM Poster or the Massachusetts 2015 Minimum Wage Peel ‘N PostTM.
