Employers in the state of Connecticut are required, once again, to update their labor law posters to be in compliance with new state changes. The changes include a new protected class under the Human Rights Law and new information on claims for workers’ compensation.
Last month, Connecticut posters were updated with the new mandatory pregnancy discrimination posting. The Act Concerning Pregnant Women in the Workplace, which became effective October 1, 2017, required employers with more than three employees to provide accommodations for an employee or prospective employee related to pregnancy, childbirth, or a related condition. In addition, two more bills were passed during Connecticut’s 2017 legislative session that have recently impacted workplace postings. Under S.B. 917, effective October 1, 2017, discriminatory practices against veterans are prohibited. The Discrimination is Illegal posting has been updated to include “veteran status” as a protected category. Under H.B. 7132, also effective October 1, 2017, employers may choose to display a poster that designates a mailing address where claims for workers’ compensation must be sent. This poster must be displayed in a location where other labor law posters required by the Labor Department are displayed. If employers decide to display the workers’ compensation claims poster, employers must also forward the mailing address where claims for workers’ compensation must be sent to the Workers’ Compensation Commission, who would post the address on its website. The aim is to inform employers right away of any workers’ compensation claim made by an employee.
