What’s new?

The Unemployment Benefits posting has been updated to reflect changes to the West Virginia Unemployment Compensation Law made by Senate Bill 841. In addition to existing eligibility requirements, an unemployed individual must:

  1. Be “actively seeking work” by completing four (4) work search activities each week, and
  2. Documenting and retaining proof of four (4) work search activities and providing them to WorkForce WV upon request by the agency.

The posting also:

  • Clarifies that unemployment benefits are subject to both Federal and State income tax, which a claimant may choose to have deducted and withheld from unemployment benefits payments.
  • Eliminates the Putnam claims office.
Who must post?

All employers must post and maintain the Unemployment Benefits posting in places readily accessible to employees to inform them of Unemployment Compensation eligibility requirements, claims procedures, and estimated weekly benefits based on employee income. (W. Va. Code § 21A-7-2.)
