Earned Paid Sick Time
On November 5, 2024, Missouri voters approved Proposition A creating a new paid sick time law. Effective May 1, 2025, all private sector employers must allow employees to accrue and use sick leave. Employees will accrue one hour of earned paid sick time for every 30 hours worked. For employers with less than 15 employees, their employees are entitled to use no more than 40 hours of paid sick time per year. For employers with more than 15 employees, their employees are entitled to use no more than 56 hours of paid sick time per year.
Who must post?

Every private employer in Missouri must display the Earned Paid Sick Time posting at the employer’s place of business by April 15, 2025. Employers are also required to provide employees with a written notice about the earned paid sick time within 14 days of the commencement of employment or on April 15, 2025, whichever is later. (Mo. Rev. Stat. § 290.612)

What’s ahead?
Presently, Missouri’s paid sick leave law is subject to two legal challenges, that, if successful, would change Missouri posting requirements. The Missouri Supreme Court is considering a lawsuit to invalidate the new paid sick leave law. Additionally, the Missouri Legislature is considering a bill that, if passed, would repeal the law and eliminate paid sick leave. Stay tuned!
