The Arizona Alcohol Pregnancy Warning Poster warns patrons that drinking alcoholic beverages, including distilled spirits, beer, coolers and wine, during pregnancy can cause birth defects.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), drinking alcohol during pregnancy may result in a range of life-long physical, behavioral and intellectual disabilities known collectively as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. It may also lead to miscarriage or stillbirth. There is no known safe amount of alcohol to drink while pregnant.
To protect public health, establishments which are licensed to sell to sell alcoholic beverages fin the state of Arizona are required to post the Arizona Alcohol Pregnancy Warning Poster in a conspicuous place to inform the public of the dangers related to drinking during pregnancy.
Posting Requirement
The Arizona Alcohol Pregnancy Warning Poster must be posted in establishments where spirituous liquor is sold. (Arizona Revised Statutes, Sec. 4-261)
- On-sale licensees (such as bars and restaurants) must post the warning notice either within twenty feet of each register where sales of spirituous liquor are made OR behind the bar from which spirituous liquor is served.
- Off-sale licensees (such as retail stores which sell spirituous liquor, including established retail liquor stores) must conspicuously post the warning notice where a customer obtains the spirituous liquor.
- Hotel-motel licensees must post the warning notice on the inside of the front door of each guest room that contains a mini-bar OR in each guest room where spirituous liquor is available through room service.
