Minnesota’s governor has signed legislation raising the state’s minimum wage to $9.50 by 2016. This is a landmark increase because it has been a whooping 9+ years since the last increase in 2005. Currently, the minimum wage sits at $5.25 per hour for employees of small employers and $6.15 per hour for employees of large employers. There is a 90 day training wage for 18 and 19 year olds of $4.90 per hour. This all changes come August 1, 2014 when the minimum wage rate increase takes effect.
How the Law Works:
Minnesota’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase in phases and beginning January 1, 2018 it will be indexed to inflation keeping the minimum wage in line with the cost of living.
