- Effective July 1, 2024, most employers in California are required to establish, implement, and maintain an effective Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP).
- Labor Code section 6401.9 outlines the required elements of the plan, which includes creating a written workplace violence prevention plan; identifying workplace violence hazards; establishing procedures related to workplace violence incidents; maintaining incident logs and other records; and providing effective training on the plan to employees at the start of employment and annually thereafter.
- The law also identifies specific topics that must be covered in the workplace violence training and requires employers to use training materials appropriate to the education level, literacy, and language of employees.
