California Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly “If You See Something, Say Something” Complaint Poster

• California licensed Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFEs) are required by California Code of Regulations, Title 22, § 84768(c) to post the California Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly Complaint Poster “If You See Something Say Something” Compliant Poster.
• RCFEs are commonly known as assisted living facilities, board and care homes, care homes, and memory care (if specialized). These home-like facilities provide 24-hour non-medical care, supervision, meals, and help with daily activities (like bathing, dressing, medication) for seniors 60 and over.
• The poster must be 20” x 26” in size and be posted in the main entryway of the licensed care facility.

What does the Poster Cover?

The poster informs residents, their representatives and caregivers to report a complaint or concern at any licensed care facility using the provided hotline number (1-844-LET-US-KNOW) and to call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.  Concerned individuals may also contact the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division Compliant Bureau using the mailing address also provided on the poster.

Are there any other RCFE posting requirements?

California RCFE licensees must post the following three posters:

1. Personal Rights Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (#05747) which includes mandatory:
   • Personal Rights of Residents in All Facilities
   • Additional Personal Rights of Residents in Privately Operated Facilities
   • Nondiscrimination Notice
   • Space to fill in the local California Department of Social Services (CDSS) contact information
   • Space to fill in the local Long-Term Care Ombudsman (LTO) contact information
2. California Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly Complaint Poster (If You See Something Say Something) (#05769)
3. California Rights of Resident Councils (#05711)

California RCFE Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) must post:

1. The four required RCFE posters (listed above) and
2. California Resident’s Rights Care Retirement Communities Poster (#05714)

Facilities must also post the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Poster provided by the Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman. Facilities should contact their local ombudsman programs for replacements.
