Under the Employment Standards Act, Prince Edward Island employees are entitled to time off work for illness, to address the consequences of domestic violence, intimate partner violence or sexual violence, the arrival of a new child or other personal or family matters without threat of losing their jobs. The posting has recently been revised to reflect that effective October 1, 2024, an employee with three months of continuous service with an employer, is entitled to unpaid leaves of absence of up to three days for sick leave during a twelve-month period. Employees may also be entitled to paid sick leave based on the following:
- One day of paid sick leave after 12 months of continuous employment.
- Two days of paid sick leave after 24 months of continuous employment.
- Three days of paid sick leave after 36 months of continuous employment.
