The Minnesota Bans Guns Poster states in large text that the posted establishment bans guns on the premises. The poster contains a fill-in space for the name of the operator or agent in charge of the establishment.
Minnesota law allows the operator or agent of a private (non-governmental) establishment to prohibit firearms on the premises if the operator/agent makes a “reasonable request.” This can be accomplished by prominently posting the Minnesota Bans Guns Poster at every entrance of the establishment.
The Minnesota Bans Guns sign can be posted by a business to let the public know that guns are not allowed or used to supplement a private employer’s firearms policy in the workplace.
Posting Requirements
The Minnesota Bans Guns Poster must be posted prominently at every entrance of the establishment which bans the carrying of firearms on the premises. “Prominently” means readily visible and within four feet laterally of the entrance. The bottom of the sign must be at a height of four to six feet above the floor. (Minnesota Statutes, Section 624.714-17).
The owner or operator of a private establishment may not prohibit the lawful carry or possession of firearms in a parking facility or parking area. A landlord may not restrict the lawful carry or possession of firearms by tenants or their guests.
