Illinois recently passed a workers’ compensation bill that makes several changes to the state workers’ compensation system. One important change involves employees’ medical provider choices in the event of injury.
Under the old law, an injured worker was entitled to two choices of medical providers. Under the new law, if an employer has a preferred provider program, the preferred program provider counts as one of the employees’ two choices of providers. Employees may opt out of the program in writing. However, if an employee opts out of the network, the employee only gets one choice of provider.
Employers are required to post the new Illinois Workers’ Compensation posting with new text that reflects the change in law. Employers can comply using Compliance Poster Company’s exclusive Illinois Workers’ Compensation Peel ‘N Post™, or with a new 2012 Illinois All-On-One™ Labor Law Poster. Illinois labor law posters are available in English and Spanish.
