Florida Employers Must Adapt To Inflation Yet Again

Add Florida to the growing list of states raising their minimum wage.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity just announced the 2013 minimum wage rate which is based on inflation and the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The 2013 Florida minimum wage rate is calculated using the percentage change in the CPI between August 2011 and August 2012. The result is a 12 cent increase in the minimum wage rate which will be $7.79 per hour effective January 1, 2013.

Florida employers need to start planning now for the minimum wage rate increase which includes an increase to $4.77 per hour for tipped employees, in addition to tips.

An employer found liable for intentionally violating minimum wage requirements is subject to a fine of $1,000 per violation.
