Colorado Confirms Cost of Living Increase for Minimum Wage Earners

Colorado’s Department of labor and Employment has officially adopted Minimum Wage Order Number 29. Effective January 1, 2013, Colorado’s minimum wage will increase to $7.78 per hour, up from the 2012 rate of $7.64 per hour. Also, the tipped employee wage will rise to $4.76 per hour, up from the current $4.62 per hour. Employers may not use more than $3.02 per hour of employee tip income to offset the minimum wage of tipped employees.

Each year, Colorado’s minimum wage rate is adjusted up or down for inflation. The rate of inflation is measured by the Consumer Price Index. Colorado’s minimum wage rate decreased back in 2010, but since then the minimum wage rate has steadily been on the rise.
