The Washington State Job Safety and Health Law posting update reflects two significant changes to violation-related time periods.
  • Complaint filing deadline: The amount of time an employee has to file a complaint with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) for retaliation or discrimination by an employer for filing a safety complaint, participating in an inspection, or engaging other safety-related activities increases to within 90 days after the retaliation or discrimination occurred. (RCW 49.17.160).
  • Citation posting time period: The minimum amount of time a citation for safety and/or health violations needs to be posted on an employee safety bulletin board increases to seven working days, not including weekends and holidays.

Who must post?
