Texas Office of Injured Employee Council – Mandatory Poster Changes

Those employers that participate in the Texas Workers’ Compensation System must post notice of the OIEC Ombudsman Program. This notice has mandatory changes effective 9/1/2013.

EMPLOYER’S NOTIFICATION OF OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM TO EMPLOYEES

(a)  The poster must be posted in the personnel office, if the employer has a personnel office, and in the workplace where each employee is likely to see the notice on a regular basis.

(b)  This notice of the Ombudsman Program must be publicly posted in English, Spanish, and any other language that is common to the employer’s employees.

(c) This notice shall be the text provided by OIEC without any additional words or changes.

An ombudsman is a specially trained employee of the Office of Injured Employee Counsel (OEIC) who can assist individuals with disputes with the employer’s insurance carrier free of charge. Ombudsman services are provided at no cost to injured employees.

Upon request, an ombudsman can help individuals prepare:

  • For benefit review conferences;
  • For benefit contested case hearings;
  • Appeals and answer carrier appeals to the appeals panel of the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation.
