USCIS: Employers Should Still Use Form I-9 After August 2012 Expiration Date

Were you aware that the expiration date on the current Form I-9 is August 31, 2012? Wondering what you should do? The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is now telling employers to continue to use the current Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification even after the form’s expiration date has passed. Employers must complete Form I-9 for all newly-hired employees to verify their identity and authorization to work in the United States.

The good news is that the USCIS is already working on a new version of the form. In fact, you may recall from one of our earlier blogs that the USCIS was seeking public comment on a proposed revision to the Form I-9 last May.

Compliance Poster Company will provide updated information about the new version of the Form I-9 as it becomes available. Meanwhile, the Form I-9 is currently available in the forms section of http://www.uscis.gov.
