Alabama No Smoking Sign Requirements:
Alabama law (Ala. Code § 22-15A-7) requires No Smoking signs to be clearly visible and conspicuously posted in all public places where smoking is prohibited. Signs should be posted at:
- Facility entrances
- Doorways leading to common areas
- Other locations that are readily visible to employees and patrons
Smoking is prohibited in the following public places:
- Places of employment:
- Smoking is prohibited in all common areas (with limited exceptions for designated smoking areas).
- Employers may designate the entire workplace as smoke-free.
- Employees may designate their individual work areas as nonsmoking.
- Childcare and healthcare facilities.
- Elevators.
- Public transportation.
- Government buildings (except private offices).
- Restrooms and service lines.
- Public areas of aquariums, galleries, libraries, and museums.
- Common areas of multi-unit residential and commercial buildings.
- Polling places.
- K–12 schools, school facilities, and indoor school events.
- Retail establishments (excluding restaurants), except areas not open to the public.
