The 2019 Alberta Youth Employment Peel ‘N Post™ adheres to existing Alberta, Canada All-On-One™ Labour Law Posters and Mobile Poster Paks™ to provide important information on provincial employment standards and occupational health and safety requirements.
The 2019 Alberta Youth Employment informational notice provides information on the employment of workers under the age of 18. In 2018, Alberta overhauled the Employment Standards system to provide expanded protections for workers, including youth employees, although some of these did not come into effect until January 1, 2019.
The current rules for youth employment comprise the following:
- Employees aged 12 and under can only be employed in artistic endeavors.
- Employees aged 13 to 14 do not need parental or guardian consent to be employed in a job from the approved non-hazardous job list. Employment in a job not on the approved job list requires a youth employment permit.
- Employees aged 15 to 17 may be employed in any type of job, but there are restrictions on working in certain industries and during certain times.
Who Should Post?
Employees of workers under the age of 18 can post the 2019 Alberta Youth Employment information notice to inform employees and supervisors of the rules for employing workers aged 13 to 17.
