California Barbering and Cosmetology Labor Law Poster Compliance
Establishments licensed by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology are required to post the labor law posting notice developed by the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, Department of Industrial Relations, describing workplace rights and wage and hour laws for employees of such establishments. (B&P 7353.4 and Lab. Code 98.10) The notice must be posted in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean.
The notice explains the following labor law rights and protections:
- employees are protected regardless of national origin, immigration status, or lack of specified documentation
- misclassification of an employee as an “independent contractor”
- current state minimum wage rates
- overtime rate calculation
- meal and rest breaks
- tip or gratuity distribution
- business expense reimbursement
- protection from retaliation
- how to report violations of law
