Under D.C. Law, property owners or ground-floor commercial tenants may post signs prohibiting smoking and tobacco products on the public space directly adjacent to your building.
Requirements
Signage: Signs must be posted on the property stating the specific distance of the prohibition.
Distance: The zone is limited to 25 feet from the building wall or the distance to the far side of the sidewalk, whichever is shorter.
Exemptions: Authorized sidewalk cafes are exempt unless the operator agrees to the prohibition.
