The Field Sanitation Agricultural Poster contains information on field sanitation conditions required for agricultural employees by the Federal Code of Regulations and California Code of Regulations. This poster can be used to train supervisors on sanitation and to inform employees of their rights under the law.

Federal regulations (29 CFR 1928.10) requires agricultural employers to provide the following without cost to the employee:

  • Potable, suitably cool drinking water which is readily accessible, provided in sufficient amounts, and dispensed in single use drinking cups or by a fountain
  • One toilet facility and one handwashing facility for every 20 employees, accessibly located and in close proximity to each other
  • Toilet facilities must be operational and maintained in clean and sanitary conditions
  • Handwashing facilities must have an adequate supply of potable water and be maintained in clean and sanitary conditions

CA regulations (Title 8, §3457) additionally require that:

  • Separate toilet facilities for each sex must be provided with 1 toilet per 20 employees or fraction thereof
  • Single-use towels must be supplied for handwashing facilities
  • Waste from handwashing and toilet facilities must be disposed of in a manner that shall not endanger the health of the workers
  • Facilities shall be located within a one-quarter (1/4) mile walk or within five (5) minutes, whichever is shorter
