Victims of human trafficking may be forced or coerced into engaging in prostitution, housework, farm work, factory work, retail work, restaurant work, or any other activity. Since 2007, the non-profit, non-governmental National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline has received 246,267 reports on potential victims of sex or labor trafficking. The Resource Center provides help and referral to services for victims and survivors of human trafficking, as well as training and general information for those who wish to provide assistance to victims.
The Florida Human Trafficking Public Awareness Poster informs victims of human trafficking that they are protected under United States and Florida law. The poster provides information on how to contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center online or via text.
Posting Requirement
In 2019, Chapter 509 of the Florida Statutes was amended, requiring all public lodging establishments to provide annual training on human trafficking awareness to employees of the establishment who perform housekeeping duties in the rental units or who work at the front desk or reception area where guests check in or check out. The training must be provided for new employees within 60 days after they begin employment in a housekeeping or reception area role. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Division of Hotels and Restaurants has created the Florida Human Trafficking Public Awareness Poster as a convenience for establishments.
