The Georgia Alcohol Health Warning Poster warns patrons that drinking alcoholic beverages during pregnancy can cause birth defects.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), drinking alcohol during pregnancy may result in a range of life-long physical, behavioral and intellectual disabilities known collectively as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. It may also lead to miscarriage or stillbirth. There is no known safe amount of alcohol to drink while pregnant.

Establishments which have a permit to sell alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption in the state of Georgia are required to post the Georgia Alcohol Health Warning Poster in a conspicuous place to inform the public of the dangers related to drinking during pregnancy. Covered establishments include bars, restaurants, and hotels/motels which provide alcohol for consumption on the premises.

Posting Requirements

The Georgia Alcohol Health Warning Poster must be posted in a conspicuous place on the premises of all retail consumption dealers and retail dealers in this state who sell at retail any alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises. (GA Code § 3-1-5)

Any person who fails or refuses to post the sign as required in this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in an amount not to exceed $100.00 for each violation.
