The Illinois Concealed Carry Prohibited Sign displays an image of a handgun under the universal “no” symbol (a red circle with a diagonal line across it) and the text “Pursuant to 430 ILCS 66/65.”
Under Illinois law, a person with a valid concealed carry license can carry a fully or partially concealed firearm anywhere in the state, with specified exceptions, so long as they also carry a valid license and valid identification.
Concealed carry is prohibited by law in the following locations:
- Elementary and secondary schools, preschools, and child care facilities
- Hospitals, mental health facilities, and nursing homes
- Bars and restaurants whose gross receipts are more than 50 percent alcoholic liquor within the prior three months
- Any building or real property that has been issued a Special Event Retailer’s license
- Amusement parks, museums, and zoos
- Any place where firearms are prohibited under federal law.
Posting Requirement
The Illinois Concealed Carry Prohibited Sign must be posted in any location on private property where the owner wishes to prohibit the carrying of a weapon such as a gun or other firearm on the property. (430 ILCS 66/65 a-10) The sign must be clearly and conspicuously posted at the entrance of the building, premise, or real property.
The Illinois Concealed Carry Prohibited Sign may also be posted in any location where the carrying of concealed firearms is prohibited to remind the public of the law.
