Illinois Liquor Control Posters

Illinois establishments engaged in the retail and food and beverage industries that are licensed to sell alcoholic beverages are required to post of certain information related to the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages. These include:

  • Illinois Government Warning – Pregnancy (#13205) – The State of Illinois (235 ILCS 5/6-24a) requires posting this Government Warning sign (regarding the possibility of birth defects when women drink alcoholic beverages while pregnant) in all Illinois liquor-licensed establishments. Signs must be at least 8.5” x 11”, framed and conspicuously posted.
  • Illinois Notice: All State & Local Taxes Included Sign (#13500) – Where it is not possible to state the sales tax as a distinct item apart from the selling price of a item, such as sales from a vending machine or liquor sales by the drink, the seller may notify purchasers by a sign that the tax is included in the selling price. (35 ILCS 105/3a)
  • Illinois Proof of Age Sign (#13501) – Illinois licensees may not sell, give or deliver alcohol to any person under 21. (235 ILCS 5/6-16) 235 ILCS 5/6-20 requires a licensee who has reason to believe that a sale or delivery of any alcoholic liquor is prohibited because of the non-age of the prospective recipient to demand presentation of some form of positive identification containing proof of age. The Illinois Liquor Control Commission recommends posting the Proof of Age Sign wherever liquor is sold in the liquor licensee’s establishment.  The sign advises patrons of the current year of birth that is required to legally purchase alcoholic beverages.
  • Illinois Display of Co-Branded Alcoholic Beverages Sign (#13503) – Illinois Liquor Control Commission Emergency Rule 100.490 (effective May 26, 2022) requires Illinois establishments with retail sales floors of 2,500 sq. ft. or less that sell packaged alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption, to post the Illinois Display of Co-Branded Alcoholic Beverages Sign “on every display that contains co-branded alcoholic beverages and is immediately adjacent to soft drinks, fruit juices, bottled water, candy or snack foods portraying cartoons or youth-oriented photos.” In covered establishments, displaying these items immediately adjacent to one another without posting the sign is strictly prohibited.
    • A co-branded alcoholic beverage is any alcoholic beverage containing the same or similar brand name, logo, or packaging as a non-alcoholic beverage.
    • The sign must be clearly visible to customers.
