Mandatory Indiana No Smoking Posters
Indiana law (IC 7.1-5-12) prohibits smoking in public places and places of employment. The law requires businesses to post signs to inform the public and patrons that smoking is prohibited.
Business must post No Smoking signs as follows:
- All business must post “State Law Prohibits Smoking Within 8 Feet Of This Entrance” signs at each public entrance to a public place or place of employment. (IC 7.1-5-12-4(d))
- All businesses must post two or more “Smoking Is Prohibited By State Law” signs inside all public places and places of employment. (IC 7.1-5-12-7(b))
- Restaurants must also post “Smoking Is Prohibited In This Restaurant” signs at each entrance to the restaurant. (IC 7.1-5-12-7(c))
Smoking Ban Exemptions
Establishments that are exempt from the smoking ban and allow smoking (other than cigarettes) have different posting requirements. Please call us at 1-800-817-7678 if you require signage for an exempt business:
- Gaming facilities (casinos, riverboats, horse-racing, and satellite facilities)
- Cigar bars and hookah bars
- Private/fraternal clubs
- Retail tobacco stores
- Freestanding bars and taverns
- Cigar-manufacturing facilities
- Cigar specialty stores
- Businesses located in a private home
- Outside bars of hotels
