The Nebraska Violence in Healthcare Poster warns patrons that assaulting a health care professional who is engaged in the performance of his or her official duties is a felony.

Health care professional means a physician or other health care practitioner who is licensed, certified, or registered to perform specified health services consistent with state law who practices at a hospital or a health clinic.

Posting Requirement

Every Nebraska hospital or health clinic is required to display the Nebraska Violence in Healthcare Poster at all times (Nebraska Revised Statutes, Section 28-929.02). The poster must be at least 14″ x 20,” and displayed in lobbies, waiting rooms, emergency rooms, at entrances, or anywhere that it may be viewed by the public.

Health care workers experience the most nonfatal workplace violence of any profession. In 2012, Nebraska made assaulting a health care professional in the course of his or her duties a felony, and began requiring hospitals and health care clinics to post the Nebraska Violence in Healthcare Poster to act as a deterrent and a reminder that violence against health care professionals is a serious matter.
