Product Description
The Tennessee Opioid Reporting Poster asks employees to report any suspected abuse or diversion of opioids to the Tennessee Department of Health’s Complaint Intake Hotline. The poster provides the toll-free telephone number for the hotline.
Opioid abuse has become a national crisis resulting in addiction and even death. According to the CDC, approximately 115 people per day die after overdosing on opioids. Abuse of prescription opioids often begins with an individual misusing a valid prescription, or faking an injury in order to obtain a prescription by fraud. Legal prescription drugs may also be diverted from the legal marketplace to the black market by way of employee or outside theft, or by individuals forging prescriptions to obtain prescription opioids illegally.
Employees who work in opioid manufacturing and distribution; hospitals, doctor’s offices, or other healthcare settings; and pharmacies can help to end the opioid crisis by reporting legitimate suspicions of opioid abuse or diversion to the Tennessee Department of Health for referral to law enforcement or the appropriate health-related board.
Posting Requirement
Effective January 1, 2019, any entity which prescribes, distributes, or handles opioids is required to provide information to employees about reporting suspected opioid abuse or diversion.
To fulfill the notice requirement, the Tennessee Opioid Reporting Poster must be posted in a conspicuous location in a non-public area regularly used by employees. (Tennessee Code Annotated, Sec. 63-1-601 (b)) Employers may alternately choose to provide written notification to each individual employee and retain documentation of receipt.
