Philadelphia Mayor Nutter Signs Executive Order: Increases Minimum Wage for City Contractors

Today May 20, 2014 City of Philadelphia contractors and their first-tier subcontractors must pay workers $10.88 per hour. Then, beginning January 1, 2015, that rate increases to $12.00 per hour. According to Mayor Nutter, “no person who works on a City contract should live in poverty”.  Click here for the news release.

This executive order comes a mere few months after President Obama signed an Executive Order raising the minimum wage for federal contractors and subcontractors. That increase to $10.10 per hour is not effective until January 1, 2015. In subsequent years the minimum wage will increase each year by a percentage measured by the Consumer Price Index.  Click here for the news release.
