Alaska Partners with U.S. Department of Labor to Protect Misclassified Employees

Last month, Alaska became the latest state to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Labor. Like the other states’ agreements with the U.S. Department of Labor, Alaska’s agreement is an attempt to fight employee misclassification. Alaska’s agencies will work together with the U.S. Department of Labor to prevent and reduce the misclassification of independent contractors or other nonemployee statutes by sharing resources and information. The ultimate goal is for employees to receive wages, benefits, and protections they are entitled to. The agreement is scheduled to expire August 13, 2018, but may be renewed if both parties agree.
