September is National Preparedness Month!

The goal of the campaign is to increase the number of individuals, families, and communities that engage in preparedness for emergencies at home, work, business, school, and place of worship. In the last few weeks, we have seen how devastating natural disasters can be. In Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Caribbean, people have been left with no electricity and billions of dollars of property damage. These recent hurricanes should remind us that it is important to be prepared ahead of time for any and all natural disasters.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace. For example, some businesses are required to have an Emergency Action Plan meeting the requirements under 29 CFR 1910.38. To ensure employees are trained, employers can use safety posters that provide instructions in the event of an emergency.
